Coco Jones on 'Let it Shine,' Father's Day

It's going to be a big weekend for Coco Jones, one of the stars of the Disney Channel original movie "Let It Shine," which premieres tonight at 8 p.m.

Jones plays the role of “Roxie,” a teenage singing sensation, whose music label is sponsoring a songwriting contest. "Let It Shine" tells the story of young love, boasting a message of self-confidence.

"This is a dream job for me," said Jones, who five years ago focused on acting and singing for Disney. "I have a passion for this. I'm excited."

And, on Sunday, with it being Father's Day, Jones will be celebrating with her dad, former NFL player Mike Jones.

"She's always been my baby. When she did the national anthem at a football game once, I was sweating and more nervous than when I was in the Super Bowl," said Jones, who played eight years in the NFL, including with the 1999 Super Bowl-bound Tennessee Titans. "We have a very close family and we call her our clutch performer."

Coco is just glad her father, who has played some big games, is around for the major moments.

"Whenever I get too nervous or am afraid of something, he is always there to reassure me," said Coco Jones, whose mother is session vocalist Javonda Jones. "We're getting him a great present for Sunday also. He's been begging us to tell him, but we won't."

Mike Jones countered: "I have four beautiful kids and a loving wife and that day will be special for me. I'm not even worried about it. I know Mom will spill the beans. I'll make sure to act surprised."
