"See that line where I call him the Volcano? That's classic. You've got to put that in there. His nickname should be the Volcano!"
That's actor Sean Astin exuberantly talking about his hosting stint this week for "Funny or Die" as he interviews NFL rookies for the Pepsi Max campaign for rookie of the year.
Astin, famous for his roles in "Rudy," "The Goonies" and "Lord of the Rings," loved spending time with the NFL rookies such as Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson and Dwayne "Volcano" Allen.
He spent more than 90 minutes taping for the 2-minute segment, and Astin loved every bit of it.
"I've been waiting a long time since 'Rudy' to find a way to get into the NFL universe. I could have gone to a football game and on the field, but this was much better," Astin said. "Most of the lines were ad-libbed. Some rookies were wide-eyed and some were media savvy."
Astin has been staying busy for years, working on big-budget films and small independent projects. He's set to voice Raphael in the relaunch of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" on Nickelodeon in a few weeks, and he is currently hosting a political radio show called "Vox Populi."
"For weeks on end, I can just sit on the couch, my wife would say, 'Why don't you just do something?'" Astin said. "Well, that hasn't happened in a long time. It's been crazy."
Speaking of crazy, check out the video again and notice the star on Astin's jacket. Filming for the video was in Hollywood, and to spice up the outfit, Astin's people rushed up and down Hollywood Boulevard looking for something to enhance the jacket.
"Seconds before we started filming, I got double-stick tape and put the star on," Astin said. "That's comedy gold right there."
