Yearbook, Nov. 11: Knicks debut at MSG

Nov. 11, 1946: Madison Square Garden? It -- "it" being the third version of MSG -- debuted as a building decades earlier.

But the New York Knicks? They didn't play their first game in Manhattan until this day 66 years ago, when the new franchise in the new Basketball Association of America lost to the Chicago Stags in overtime to fall to 2-2 on the season (the Knicks ended up 33-27, before losing in the semifinals of the playoffs).

They stayed in MSG III until it closed in February 1968 and made way for today's Garden -- where the Knicks won both of their championships within six years of moving.
