Yearbook, Nov. 27: Gordie Howe's day

Nov. 27, 1960 and 1965: Gordie Howe must have had a thing for late November. On Nov. 26, 1961, he played in his 1,000th game -- a nice enough milestone, but hardly a significant as the two that happened one day later, date-wise.

On this day 52 years ago, the Detroit Red Wings right wing became the NHL's first player to 1,000 points, sealing his history with an assist during a 2-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Then, five years to the day later, Howe netted his 600th career goal -- also a first for hockey (only Maurice Richard had reached 500 before him).

Howe is now third all-time in points, behind Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier, and second in goals behind -- well, take a guess.
