Yearbook, Nov. 28: Bear Bryant's record

Nov. 28, 1981: His journey started in 1945 with the University of Maryland, then stretched through Kentucky and Texas A&M before ending -- geographically speaking -- in Tuscaloosa, Ala. But that same journey passed a particularly special marker on this day 31 years ago, when Paul "Bear" Bryant won his then-record-breaking 315th game with a 28-17 victory over rival Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

The victory in Birmingham vaulted Bryant past Amos Alonzo Stagg on the all-time wins list. And although others have passed him since -- and, retroactively, Pop Warner's win total was boosted to 319 -- it's safe to say Bryant's on-field legacy of 323 career wins and six national titles is secure.
