July 24, 1983: Pine tar. In pockets, it's synonymous with former Kansas City Royals great George Brett, whose ninth-inning, go-ahead home run against the New York Yankees was erased when New York Manager Billy Martin pointed out to home plate umpire Tim McLelland that the amount of the substance on Brett's bat handle exceeded the allowed limit. Brett went nuts, the Royals appealed, the game was replayed ... and K.C. gave out commemorative souvenirs almost 30 years later.
