Yearbook, Oct. 13: Bill Mazeroski's blast

Oct. 13, 1960: Some called him "The Glove," but Bill Mazeroski did more than field the ball. You might have heard of one such occurrence: on this day 52 years ago, when the Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman took a 1-0 pitch from Ralph Terry, with the Pirates and New York Yankees tied at 9-all in the bottom of the ninth during Game 7 of the World Series at Forbes Field.

Yep, Mazeroski homered. It remains the only walk-off round-tripper in World Series Game 7 history and made Maz quite the unlikely hero.

It was worthy of a statue, too.
