The NFL announced preseason schedules for all 32 teams on Wednesday. Traditionally, the San Diego Chargers play teams from the NFC West, in part to cut down on the travel.
Even with the Chargers playing teams from the NFC West in the regular season, that tradition continues for the upcoming preseason.
San Diego hosts Dallas in the first week of exhibition play at Qualcomm Stadium [Aug. 7-10], then travels to face the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in the Emerald City in Week 2 [Aug. 14-18].
In Week 3, the Chargers travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers in a nationally televised contest on Aug. 24. San Diego then closes out exhibition play with a home contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 28.
So the Chargers will play the Seahawks, 49ers and Cardinals twice in 2014, once in exhibition play and once during the regular season.
The league’s slate of eight nationally televised preseason games will feature eight 2013 playoff teams, including the Chargers.
The Chargers finished 1-3 during exhibition play in Mike McCoy’s first season as head coach.
San Diego is 127-110-4 all-time in the preseason.
