SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- It's no secret the San Francisco 49ers are one of the league's biggest underdogs heading toward the 2017 NFL season. That's to expected after a 2-14 debacle that preceded a massive offseason makeover of the front office, the coaching staff and the roster.
On Thursday, the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas offered a little different perspective of how far off the Niners are from the Super Bowl. The twist? The bookmaker provided odds on every single potential Super Bowl matchup.
While a potential New England Patriots-Dallas Cowboys showdown had the shortest odds at 7-1, the Niners represented one-half of the most distant possibility. The 49ers versus the New York Jets was the longest of all the long shots, coming in at a whopping 5,000-1.
For the sake of posterity and to navigate the forthcoming offseason doldrums, here's a look at the odds the Golden Nugget offered for every possible AFC opponent:
vs. Patriots: 150-1
vs. Oakland Raiders: 200-1
vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: 400-1
vs. Cleveland Browns: 3,000-1
vs. Jets: 5,000-1
