There is a chance the San Francisco 49ers will spend more than a week away from home for the second time this season.
If the No. 5 seed 49ers win at No. 4 seed Green Bay on Sunday and No. 6 seed New Orleans beats No. 3 seed Philadelphia on Saturday, the 49ers will play at No. 2 seed Carolina on Jan. 12. 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said the team has considered staying east next week to avoid the extra travel time.
Twice under Harbaugh, in 2011 and 2012, the 49ers practiced in Youngstown, Ohio between playing East Coast games. This season, they practiced in England in preparation for a London game after playing at Tennessee.
There are still likely logistical details to consider, but if the 49ers decide to go to Ohio next week, they will have to travel to Green Bay ready for any scenario.
