Perhaps the substantial contingent of San Francisco 49ers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame will grow in February.
Several former 49ers are among the 126 modern-era nominees to enter the Canton, Ohio, museum next February.
Headlining the 49ers’ nominees are former owner Eddie DeBartolo and pass-rusher Charles Haley. They were both finalists last year. Running back Roger Craig, a previous finalist, is also on the list as are former running back Ricky Watters and defensive lineman Bryant Young.
I’d think DeBartolo (who has big support from many 49ers’ Hall of Famers) and Haley will make big pushes again this season. The list will be pared down to 25 in November and then to 15 in January.
In other 49ers’ notes:
Running back Anthony Dixon got 49ers-Seahawks rivalry week going when he called the 49ers' opponents the “She-Hawks" in a tweet.
Former 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs explains why the team waited to cut him after he fell out of favor last year. He said the team didn’t want to face him. Jacobs is back with the Giants again. The two teams do not meet this season and I don’t think the 49ers would care if they had to face Jacobs at this point.
