The San Francisco 49ers' scouting department will surely take note of the proceedings at the NFL combine this weekend. However, it will not be the overriding factor on which players the team pursues in the draft.
General manager Trent Baalke said the team’s main evaluation approach is simple.
“We are film guys,” Baalke told reporters in Indianapolis. “It still comes down to the film.”
Interestingly, Baalke also said one of the factors that goes into the team’s draft process is how prospects use social media. They monitor Twitter accounts as a way to gauge a player’s character.
“We pay quite a bit of attention to it," Baalke said. "Once we get the [draft] board narrowed down over the next several weeks, we'll start identifying the players we want to take a look at their accounts, how active they are, what they're saying, what they're doing … I think we all know what we're looking for, how responsible they are and the use of it."
