The San Francisco 49ers are not afraid to window shop.
They continued that approach with a recent visit with cornerback Brandon Flowers. Fox Sports 1 reported that Flowers visited Friday with the 49ers. He agreed to terms Tuesday with the San Diego Chargers, the first team with whom he visited . He was recently cut by the Kansas City Chiefs.
I'm not surprised by the 49ers' interest, but I am also not surprised that they didn't do enough to pluck Flowers away from San Diego. We previously looked at why Flowers would interest the 49ers and why ultimately I thought a pairing would be a longshot.
The 49ers visited with several players this offseason whom they ended up didn't signing.
The fact that Flowers didn't sign means the 49ers will definitely be adding to the cornerback position. The 49ers have talent there, but there are still questions.
I think the 49ers will be fine going into the season with their current group of cornerbacks. But as they did with Flowers, if a solid player becomes available they will investigate.
That's what the 49ers do, they look at options. It doesn't always mean they will close the deal. Their visit with Flowers is another example of that approach.
