The San Francisco 49ers have waived defensive lineman Demarcus Dobbs and signed cornerback Chance Casey to the practice squad.
The waiving of Dobbs, who was inactive for Sunday's 13-10 loss to the St. Louis Rams, leaves the Niners with an open spot on their 53-man roster. And yes, in case you’re wondering, that could be filled in short order by a certain All-Pro outside linebacker who has one game remaining on his nine-game suspension but around whom much speculation has swirled that said suspension could be reduced for good behavior.
No word, though, has come yet on Aldon Smith being available for the 49ers’ game this weekend at the New Orleans Saints.
Dobbs, meanwhile, appeared in six games and had 10 tackles, eight solo. His roster spot was in jeopardy with the assension of Quinton Dial and the impending return of nose tackle Glenn Dorsey.
