Ditka blasts decision to play Smith

SAN FRANCISCO -- ESPN analyst Mike Ditka doesn’t like that San Francisco 49ers' Aldon Smith is playing Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Smith, 23, was briefly jailed Friday morning after being involved in a single-vehicle crash around 7 a.m. in San Jose. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Ditka said on ESPN’s Sunday Countdown: “You get what you tolerate. What message are you sending to young people in sport? Go ahead, do anything. Be a bum, act like a clown, I’m going to play you on Sunday. I disagree with it totally.”

Tom Jackson added this: “This is where your play takes priority over the value we’d like to instill in you. It is the Catch-22 of the National Football League.”
