Jeremy Lane activated, Stephen Schilling placed on IR

The Seattle Seahawks activated nickel cornerback Jeremy Lane off injured reserve Saturday, as expected. But what wasn’t expected was placing backup center Stephen Schilling on injured reserve, which ends his season.

Schilling was listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game with a knee injury, but played in the second half last week with the injury. Placing Schilling on IR makes Patrick Lewis the backup center.

Lewis started the game last weekend when starting center Max Unger missed his fourth consecutive game with a foot injury, but Unger is expected to start Sunday against the New York Giants.

The fact that the Seahawks didn’t take a defensive back off the 53-man roster when they activated Lane could mean that cornerback Byron Maxwell and strong safety Kam Chancellor will not play.

Maxwell is listed as questionable after missing the past three games with a calf injury, but he did practice Friday. Chancellor is doubtful with a groin injury and didn’t practice this week. Cornerback Marcus Burley, who has played in the nickel packages while Lane was out, also is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.
