Arkansas' Long: We're not moving

The Arkansas people I talked with back in April while I was on campus and again at the SEC spring meetings in early June were adamant that the Hogs weren't going anywhere.

Simply, they were entrenched in the SEC.

But as the conference expansion maneuverings escalated and evolved, so did rumblings that Arkansas might be interested in going back to the "new" Big 12 and re-joining some of its traditional rivals such as Texas and Texas A&M.

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long's most recent response should put that chatter to bed once and for all.

In a statement released through the university, Long said the Hogs are a proud member of the SEC and have no interest in joining another conference.

Here's his statement in full:

"In recent weeks and months, there has been much national dialogue regarding conference affiliation in intercollegiate athletics. In the course of that dialogue, some have suggested that the University of Arkansas was an institution that may be pursued by other conferences. From the beginning, we have been very clear that the University of Arkansas is a proud member of the Southeastern Conference and has no interest in joining another conference. Chancellor [Dave] Gearhart has been unwavering in his support of our institution’s continued membership in the SEC. Recent events have not in any way altered our commitment or desire to remain a member of what we believe is the strongest conference in the nation.”
