The ESPN.com Preseason Power Rankings are out, and Alabama was an overwhelming choice for the No. 1 spot.
I'm starting to wonder if Alabama coach Nick Saban is one of the few out there who doesn't think the Crimson Tide are the best team in college football entering the season. He told a Birmingham television station that he didn't have Alabama No. 1 on his preseason ballot. My ESPN.com colleague, Pat Forde, agrees with Saban and had Boise State No. 1 in his preseason rankings. Ohio State has generated some first-place votes as well, which isn't surprising when you see what the Buckeyes have coming back. Saban also cast his No. 1 pick for the Buckeyes, according to reports in Alabama.
As for me, here's where I had the SEC teams ranked in my preseason Top 25:
No. 1: Alabama
No. 4: Florida
No. 14: Georgia
No. 16: Arkansas
No. 18: Auburn
No. 20: LSU
No. 23: South Carolina
I thought long and hard about pulling the trigger on Ole Miss, and the truth is that the Rebels have the schedule to be 5-0 going into that Alabama game on Oct. 16. They just don't have a lot of opportunities to impress the pollsters with how soft their schedule is the first five weeks of the season.
