Robinson leaves LSU for North Carolina

LSU's special teams had few peers last season.

But the guy who oversaw the Tigers' kicking game is on his way out. Joe Robinson, LSU's special teams coordinator and defensive line assistant, has taken a job as North Carolina's defensive line coach.

"Joe Rob did a great job coaching our special teams in his three years with us," LSU coach Les Miles said. "We wish Joe and his family great success in their future endeavors."

Miles said that he will be in no hurry to find a replacement for Robinson. LSU starts spring practice on March 11.

With Robinson gone, that means the Tigers are essentially starting from scratch next season on special teams. Gone are all All-SEC place-kicker Josh Jasper and All-SEC return specialist Patrick Peterson. Punter Derek Helton, who was second in the SEC with a 45.7-yard average, was also a senior.
