Playing dodgeball with the Commodores

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- James Franklin knows what a challenge he has on his hands at Vanderbilt.

He also knows how to have a little fun.

Don't think so?

Check out this video, where the Vanderbilt players took a little break from football last Friday to go up against the coaches and other administrators in a spirited game of dodgeball.

You have to love Franklin's enthusiasm, and the players say that's been what they've embraced most about the first-year coach.

I'm in Nashville today spending some time with Franklin and the Vanderbilt team and will catch part of practice later today.

I'll have some stories and videos on the Commodores over the next few days, so be sure to check back on the SEC blog.

Vanderbilt returns more starters than anybody else in the SEC (20), but Franklin is also excited about the class the Commodores just signed, which includes three quarterbacks.

One of those quarterbacks, Lafonte Thourogood is in town this week to watch the Vanderbilt spring game on Sunday. Physically, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Thourogood looks like a million bucks. He told the Vanderbilt coaches that he recently bench-pressed 410 pounds.

Thourogood was also one of several signees the Commodores were able to get away from other schools during the recruiting process. He was originally committed to Virginia Tech before changing his mind and signing with Vanderbilt after Franklin and the new staff came aboard.
