GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Former Florida safety Marquand Manuel is back at his alma mater working as an intern.
ManuelHe and Jesse Palmer played together at Florida in the late 1990s, and they agree that the atmosphere around the football complex is completely different than what they were used to under Steve Spurrier.
"It's nice to be up here floating around the coaches' offices," Palmer said. "If you were up here when I played, that meant you were in trouble. That's the only time you were up here."
Manuel, who's semi-retired after playing eight seasons in the NFL, said the coaches now want the players around them and invite the players to come up to their offices. Some of the position meetings take place right down the hall from Will Muschamp's office, especially with the new digs.
"That's the way the coaches want it. They want to be around the players," Manuel said.
Manuel hasn't missed his chance to gig Palmer, who's been bouncing around the complex Monday interviewing coaches and peeking into meetings.
"Jesse doesn't know what to think about all this. I told him Coach Spurrier had him on ice when he was here," Manuel joked.
