Alabama adds nation's No. 2 cornerback

Alabama continued its mighty recruiting roll Wednesday.

After grabbing two commitments at the beginning of the month, the Tide added its 17th commitment in the 2012 recruiting class when Atlanta St. Pius X Catholic cornerback Geno Smith picked Alabama over Auburn during a news conference at his high school.

"I committed to Alabama," said Smith, who is the nation's No. 2 cornerback and No. 31 prospect overall. "Everything kind of came together when I went there for my last unofficial visit. It's the place where I felt the most comfortable. I love the players there and they all had nothing but great things to say about the school. Plus, they have a really good broadcasting/communications department."

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect also considered Notre Dame, Texas and Tennessee.

The addition of Smith gives Alabama a league-high seven verbal commitments from the ESPNU 150. As a junior, Smith registered eight interceptions and 47 tackles.
