Defense keeping the Vols in it

Somebody obviously forgot to tell Tennessee that this game wasn’t supposed to be a game early in the third quarter.

It was supposed to have been over a long time ago.

Tennessee’s defense is for real, though, and has the Vols in position to do the unthinkable in the second half – take down No. 1 Florida.

Lane Kiffin has done a nice job of shortening the game by running the football, and senior tailback Montario Hardesty was a man in the first half for Tennessee.

If the Vols had operated with more confidence down near the goal line, they’d be ahead right now.

To me, the tone for the game was set on the first possession of the game. The Gators took over at the Vols’ 30 after Brandon James’ long kickoff return and the ensuing face-mask penalty, but could only move 10 yards and had to settle for a field goal.
