Richt hopeful Crowell can play

Georgia coach Mark Richt still isn’t sure about freshman running back Isaiah Crowell’s status for Saturday’s game at Georgia Tech.

“Isaiah … we’re not 100 percent sure that he’s going to be healthy, so we don’t know,” Richt said Wednesday.

Crowell went down with an ankle injury on the Bulldogs’ first series last week against Kentucky and never returned. Also, Carlton Thomas was suspended last week, and there’s no definitive word on his status this week.

Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo sounded a more optimistic tune following practice Tuesday. He told reporters that Thomas was playing against Georgia Tech and that he also expected Crowell to be ready to go by game time on Saturday.

Richt dismissed the notion that the Bulldogs might rest Crowell this week to ensure that he’s ready for the SEC championship game on Dec. 3.

“If he’s healthy, I dang sure want him to play,” Richt said.
