My ESPN.com colleague, Mark Schlabach, is reporting that the FBS conference commissioners and other power brokers in college football are looking at neutral-site games for the semifinals and championship game if a four-team playoff comes to fruition.
Of particular interest to the SEC is that Schlabach is also reporting that a proposal to include conference champions only in a playoff is almost dead. Alabama won last season's BCS national championship despite not winning the SEC's Western Division, but beat LSU in a rematch in the BCS National Championship Game.
According to Schlabach, the conference commissioners want to "take back New Year's Day." That way, the two semifinal games would be played on New Year's Day and the championship game a week later.
None of these proposed changes would go into effect until the 2014 season.
