Sorting out the Arkansas-Texas A&M series

Texas A&M had already said that it expected to face Arkansas in College Station this coming season after the teams had played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas the past three seasons as nonconference foes.

Arkansas is now confirming that the series will be played at the two campus sites the next two seasons, with talks ongoing that would return the series to Cowboys Stadium in 2014. The game this season will be played Sept. 29 at Texas A&M's Kyle Field, and the 2013 game will be played Sept. 28 at Arkansas' Razorback Stadium.

It's no secret that Arkansas would prefer to play the game at Cowboys Stadium every year. That way, they enhance their exposure in the state of Texas for recruiting purposes, and it's also a recruiting tool just to be able to play a game in a world-class facility like Cowboys Stadium.

That's not to mention the money part of it. Under the original 10-year agreement, which was dubbed the Southwest Classic, both schools stood to make as much as $5 million each time the game was played at Cowboys Stadium.

Arkansas won all three games in that series. The last time the teams faced each other at a campus site was the 1991 season, the Hogs' final season as a member of the old Southwest Conference. Texas A&M won 13-3 at Kyle Field.

It was also announced on Wednesday that LSU and Arkansas would play on the Friday after Thanksgiving next season. The game will be televised nationally by CBS and kick off at 2:30 p.m. ET.
