Alabama-LSU rivalry takes to Twitter

Too bad we have to wait until Nov. 3 to see Alabama and LSU get it on again on the football field.

Of course, it sounds like Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron and LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu don't want to wait. The two of them have been exchanging in a pretty intense Twitter battle.

On Monday, Mathieu tweeted, "Try throwing a corner route or a cross country on me this year!!! i'll be waiting!!!"

McCarron was quick to respond with a tweet of his own.

""U can talk ab stopping something.. But actions speak louder than words. Remember that. #neworleans #14," McCarron replied.

It went back and forth for a while with the two players directing tweets at each other.

Finally, McCarron tried to calm the situation and asked Alabama fans to let it go.

"Bama fans don't talk anymore ab it. Let's just sit back quietly and wait our turn. Y'all know the date. It's comin. #november3rd #bamanation," McCarron wrote.

McCarron and the Crimson Tide went after Mathieu in last season's BCS National Championship Game and had success throwing his way. McCarron finished 23-of-34 for 234 yards and was named the game's Offensive MVP.

Mathieu said during spring practice he wasn't at his best in either game against Alabama last season and was looking forward to making amends this fall.

"My job is making plays for this team, and I didn’t do it in that last game,” Mathieu told ESPN.com in April. “It’s definitely motivation and something I’ve carried with me. There are a lot of people out there who have talked specifically about both of those games (against Alabama) and me not making plays in those two games. So, yes, it’s motivation, but I really didn’t need anybody to talk about what I didn’t do in those two games to motivate me. I already know, and I’ll be a better player next year because of it.”
