The start of the 2012 SEC football season will get a grand sendoff along the Alabama gulf coast with the first-ever SEC BeachFest on Aug. 23-26 in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
Alabama coach Nick Saban, Auburn coach Gene Chizik and LSU coach Les Miles will all be in attendance and partake in town hall discussions with fans and ESPNU analysts, all set along Alabama’s white sand beaches.
"We are excited to see all the elements of this action-packed weekend develop over the last few months and are eager to welcome SEC families to our beachfront for a preview of the official kick-off of the football season," said Herb Malone, President/CEO of Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism (CVB). “This event showcases what SEC families truly mean to our destination."
In addition to Saban, Chizik and Miles, retired SEC coaches such as Gene Stallings, Pat Dye, Vince Dooley and Phillip Fulmer will also be on hand to interact with fans, who will have a chance to claim an SEC championship of their own while representing their school in the inaugural SEC Golf Scramble.
