Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson has dug his heels in on sophomore quarterback Larry Smith, who continues to struggle throwing the ball.
Johnson said it's unfair to dump all of the Commodores' struggles offensively on Smith's shoulders. Plus, Johnson wants to give his young quarterback some confidence, and you don't give a quarterback confidence by yanking him.
In other words, Smith is the Commodores' quarterback of the present and future, and Johnson is going to allow him to play his way through the rough patches.
Smith hasn't been able to get much going Saturday against the Georgia defense, which has been awful against the pass this season. The Bulldogs lead 7-3 in the second quarter.
