It's obvious with each game how much Mississippi State misses middle linebacker Jamar Chaney, not only his presence on the field as a defensive playmaker, but his leadership.
More than ever, the Bulldogs need somebody to step up and be a leader during this rocky stretch. Coach Sylvester Croom is as tough as they come and can take the heat. But player leadership when things are going bad is the most important factor if you're going to turn things around.
Chaney, who fractured his leg in the opener and is out for the season, told Kyle Veazey of the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger that he's applied for a hardship waiver with the NCAA that would allow him to return to college next season, but Chaney has yet to decide if that's the route he will go.
Getting him back would be a huge boost for the Bulldogs.
