SEC defenders rack up weekly accolades

Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones and Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks were rewarded this week for their play from the past weekend.

Jones really made out like a fat cat when it came to weekly awards. On Monday, Jones was named the Walter Camp National Player of the Week, the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week and the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after his dominating performance in Georgia's 41-20 win against Missouri.

On Tuesday, Jones was then named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week and the Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week. He's even received some Heisman love nationally.

It's hard not to praise Jones after what he did against Missouri. He recorded nine tackles, including two sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and five quarterback pressures. His interception and one of the forced fumbles set up touchdowns for Georgia.

Right now, it might be hard to find a better all-around defender than Jones playing college football.

After grabbing two interceptions and six tackles in Mississippi State's 28-10 win against Auburn, Banks was named the Jim Thorpe Defensive Back of the Week. Banks is tied for third nationally with two interceptions, and is tied for first nationally among active FBS players with 14 career interceptions.

Mississippi State tight end Marcus Green was also named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week after catching four passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns against Auburn.
