Auburn wins, but questions swirling

Auburn, suffering through its worst season in 60 years, managed to pick up win No. 3 Saturday with a 51-7 rout of FCS foe Alabama A&M.

Tre Mason and Onterio McCalebb both rushed for more than 100 yards, and the Tigers (3-8, 0-7) jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and then cruised to the win.

Already out of the postseason picture, Auburn will end its nightmarish season next week at Alabama, and only then will the question everybody is asking on the Plains be answered: Will coach Gene Chizik be back for the 2013 season?

Auburn president Jay Gogue made it clear Friday after the board of trustees meeting that he would be the one to make the call on Chizik's future and that he would listen to athletic director Jay Jacobs' recommendation. Gogue said he would not be pushed into a decision by board members or boosters.

"Just like all of us, (the fans) have been disappointed in the performance this year of the football team,” Gogue said. “That’s certainly legitimate. We all have (been disappointed). Like I said, at the end of the season, we’ll have a chance to sit down and review where we are."
