It looks as if one of South Carolina's coaches is heading north.
According to the Associated Press, South Carolina special teams coach John Butler is leaving to join Penn State's staff.
Butler, who spent one year with the Gamecocks, is returning to his home state of Pennsylvania to join new coach Bill O'Brien, who was named Penn State's new coach less than a week ago.
Butler has spent time in the Big Ten before, coaching Minnesota's special teams and linebackers from 2007-10. He will also reunite with new Penn State defensive coordinator Ted Roof, who coached at Minnesota with Butler in 2008.
A source familiar to the deal told the Associated Press that Butler met with South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier Wednesday to inform him of his decision to leave.
