Auburn QB John Franklin III works out with Michael Vick

When it comes to dual-threat quarterbacks, there haven’t been many better than Michael Vick. So it was no small news when Auburn quarterback John Franklin III tweeted a photo Wednesday of he and Vick working out together.

Franklin, a junior-college transfer, arrived at Auburn in January and was immediately thrust into the starting quarterback competition alongside Sean White and Jeremy Johnson.

Because of his speed and elusiveness, some fans hope he can come in and win the starting job before Auburn's season opener against Clemson. They saw what Nick Marshall did for Gus Malzahn’s offense in 2013 and 2014, and they believe Franklin can make that same type of impact. He’s the perfect change-of-pace option for an offense that struggled last fall.

And for anybody questioning Franklin’s speed, he was reportedly clocked running a sub-4.3 in the 40-yard dash last month.

As for Vick, he remains a free agent in search of his next NFL team. He spent last year backing up Ben Roethlisberger for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
