Billings won't be back at Auburn

Auburn senior receiver Montez Billings has decided to leave the team, the university announced late Friday.

Having already received his degree in May, Billings was serving an NCAA-mandated four-game suspension that Auburn officials said was for academic reasons. He was eligible to come back after the Ball State game next week.

But Auburn coach Gene Chizik said Friday that Billings was moving on and wouldn't be back.

"Montez has his degree and has decided to leave the Auburn football team to pursue other opportunities," Chizik said in a statement. "We appreciate what he gave to the football program during his career and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Billings was Auburn's leading returning receiver after catching 24 passes for 277 yards last season. But he was sidelined by an NCAA ruling in late August and suspended for the first four games this season.
