Cavaliers 108, Celtics 88
The Cavaliers outscore the Celtics 35-14 in the fourth quarter to win their second straight following a three-game losing streak. LeBron James scores 36 points, his 31st 30-point game of the season (2nd most in NBA behind Kevin Durant). It's Cleveland's first win on the road vs Boston since Jan. 3, 2007. The Cavaliers snap a nine-game losing streak in road games vs the Celtics (including the postseason). Rajon Rondo finishes with 19 points and 11 assists. It's his 13th game with 15+ points and 10+ assists this season, the most by a Celtic since Sherman Douglas in 1993-94 (15 games). Boston falls to 5-6 in its last 11 home games. Shaquille O'Neal sprains his right thumb with 6:58 remaining the second quarter and does not return. But it's not how you start, it's how you finish: Mo Williams scores 14 points in the fourth quarter. That's as many points as the Celtics entire team scored in the final period. Williams was 5-of-7 from the field and made four three-pointers.
After the jump, Kentucky gets some pay-back, inside the Big East battle between (8) Villanova and (4) Syracuse, how A-Rod helped the Yankees win some bling and the official 2010 Vancouver Olympics medal count.
(2) Kentucky 82, South Carolina 61
The Wildcats avenge their only loss of the season, getting a season-high 23 points from Patrick Patterson on 10-12 shooting. DeMarcus Cousins records a double-double for the ninth time in the last 11 games, his 17th of the season which extends his Kentucky freshman record. John Wall finishes 4-15 from the field and is 20-57 (35 percent) from the field over his last four games. Devan Downey, who had 30 points in South Carolina's upset of Kentucky, finished with 26 points but shot 9-25 from the field to get there. The Gamecocks didn't get a single point from their bench.
(8) Villanova at (4) Syracuse
Syracuse will take a 1-game lead in the Big East into its showdown with Villanova on Saturday. The two teams are among the conference's best in many offensive categories. But the wildcats do hold the edge at the foul line: Villanova is 1st while the Orange are 11th...out of 16 schools. If you are planning on going to the game Saturday night, bring some earplugs, because the Carrier Dome is expected to rocking. Syracuse has already clinched a first round bye in the Big East tournament.
A-Rod had not been known to come through in the clutch, especially in the postseason. In 2006, he was moved down in the order to 7th as the Yankees bowed out to the Tigers. But then, last year in the playoffs, he drove in 18 runs. That was one more than he had produced in his previous seven playoff appearances combined. You can A-Rod in action in the Yankees first pre-season game March 1 against Pittsburgh.
The US has 32 medals, the most of any country. It is two away from tying the American Winter Olympic record of 34 set in 2002. Four more medals and the Americans can tie Germany in 2002 for the most by ANY country in the Winter Olympics. (the US hockey team clinches at least a silver medal with a win Friday afternoon over Finland). Go USA!!!
