Cavaliers 97, Spurs 95
Cleveland Rocks: In a game featuring 11 ties and 12 lead changes, the Cavaliers improve to 10-12 without LeBron James in the lineup. Cleveland gets the win despite seeing Antawn Jamison leave the game with a stiff left knee in the 3rd quarter. For the first time in franchise history, the Cavs are the first team in the NBA to reach 50 wins. In each of the last two years, the first team to hit the half-century mark in the win column, the Lakers last season and the Celtics before that, went on win the NBA Championship...so Cleveland has that going for them.
After the jump, inside the Mavericks 12 game winning streak, the NHL MVP Race and UConn's 71 game winning streak--numbers which will leave you speechless.
Mavericks 125, Timberwolves 112
MAVS STREAKING: Dallas pushes its winning streak to 12 games and has won 15 of its last 16 against the Timberwolves. Shawn Marion scores a season-high 29 and grabs 14 boards. Jason Kidd adds 10 assists; his 3rd straight game with 10+ assists. The Cavaliers 13 straight wins from January 16th to February 11th is the only win streak in the NBA this season longer than Mavericks current 12-game run. And Dallas is a good bet to stretch its streak to a league-best 14 games: the Mavs host the Nets and Knicks in their next 2 games.
Stars 4, Capitals 3 (SO) (DAL won shootout, 2-1)
BACK IN THE SADDLE: Marty Turco made 49 saves and Loui Eriksson scored the deciding goal in the fifth round of the shootout as the Stars snapped the Capitals' 13-game home win streak in Washington on Monday night. Alex Ovechkin's ended his season-high, six-game goal drought. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Dallas. In the battle for the NHL's MVP award, both Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby are tied for the league lead in goals with 44 apiece. Ovechkin also leads the NHL with a ridiculous PLUS-minus rating of 43. Crosby has had 13 multi-goal games this season, which leads the league. (see chart below)
Most Multi-Goal Games This Season
Sidney Crosby 13
Alex Ovechkin 12*
Patrick Marleau 10
Alexander Semin 10

(7) Notre Dame 44 (1) Connecticut 59
WHO'S GOT NEXT: You might not believe the numbers above because they're completely mind-blowing. Of the Huskies 71 straight wins, more than half of them - 41 to be exact - have come by 30 or more points. UConn's largest win during the streak came in it's season opener this year, when the Huskies beat Northeastern by 70, winning 105-35. It's 1 of 6 times Connecticut has hit the century mark during its record run. Check out the egg the first column--not one opponent has come withing 9 points of the Huskies on the 71 game streak - that's staggering. Up next, No. 9 West Virginia (28-4) in the finals of the Big East tournament.
