Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins still feels tightness in his strained right calf (suffered on April 14) and says it could be the end of the month before he returns to the lineup. The 31-year-old leadoff hitter was playing as advertised, hitting .391 and scoring eight runs in seven games, before the injury. Rollins said before Sunday night's game against the Mets, he'd like to return within two weeks.
A Texas Twist
Attempting to finalize a deal to sell the team, MLB may seize ownership of the Texas Rangers, according to the Sports Business Journal. A group headed by Rangers team president Nolan Ryan and Pittsburgh attorney Chuck Greenberg is trying to buy the team and the seizure by MLB would reportedly help the group avoid creditors blocking the agreement. The story has also been confirmed by ESPNDallas.com.
Tim Welsh has resigned as Hofstra's men's basketball head coach. The announcement comes three days after Welsh was arrested and charged with DWI on Long Island. Welsh, who worked as an analyst at ESPN, was hired by Hofstra on March 31st. The school says they accept his resignation "in the best interests of the university and of the men's basketball program."
