Yale Hockey Player - Mandy Schwartz - In Need Of A Transplant

School is out for the summer. A time that's not so much a break but an opportunity for driven Yale students. Studies abroad can beckon. There are internship opportunities in assorted prestigious arenas, or they can do something really important -- a life changing experience that they hope will save the life of one of their own suffering from leukemia. Bob Holtzman has the story of a race against time for one Yale athlete.

The search for a donor for Mandi has expanded worldwide, with volunteers reaching out to possible donors in Canada, Germany and the Ukraine. Since it began operations in 1987, the National Marrow Donor Program has facilitated more than 38,000 marrow and cord blood transplants to give patients a second chance at life. The NMDP works only with unrelated adult donor or cord blood transplants.

Yale's website says Mandi is in remission and set for a stem cell transplant in Seattle at some point over the next 30-60 days.
