Stats and Trends: Inside the Numbers

Rays Stung: Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria and B.J. Upton had to be separated in a dugout dispute after Gerardo Parra hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning that helped Arizona beat the Rays Sunday. On Friday, Edwin Jackson no-hit Tampa Bay, which had just seven hits in the series. The Diamondbacks took two of three from the Rays. Back on May 24th the Rays were 32-12 - 5 and a half games better than anyone else in the league -- but since then they have gone 12-18. Only the Orioles and Indians have fewer wins in the AL in that span. After having a 6-game lead in the division, Tampa is now looking up at both the Yankees and Red Sox.

After the jump ... The good and bad about Jamie Moyer, a closer look at the U.S. soccer team and, for the first time, an American is expected to become the No. 1 ranked female golfer.

The Good ... The Bad: 47-year-old Jamie Moyer gave up two runs and six hits in seven innings as the Phillies beat the Blue Jays 11-2 Sunday. Toronto's Vernon Wells clouted his 19th homer of the season off Moyer in the third inning. The homer was the 506th given up by Moyer in his career. Moyer passed former Phillies Hall of Famer Robin Roberts for the most homers allowed in a career. However, Moyer earned his 267th career victory, moving within one win of tying Jim Palmer for 34th on the all-time list. A look at Jamie Moyer and Robin Roberts -- Roberts threw nearly 4,700 innings, while Moyer is just over of 4,000. Roberts has 286 career wins, compared 267 for Moyer. Roberts was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1976.

U.S. High Hurdles: When looking at possible reasons why Team USA went out in the Round of 16 in South Africa, their need to rally from early deficits could be a factor. Over four games, the U.S. led for only the three stoppage time minutes following Landon Donovan's dramatic goal against Algeria. The Americans also gave up goals in the first 15 minutes of a match three times and were outscored 4-1 in the first half of their 4 games. In addition, the U.S. did not get a goal from a striker during their World Cup run. All five of the U.S. goals came from midfielders.

New #1: Cristie Kerr was the winner of the LPGA Championship Sunday in a runaway after a closing 6-under 66. Kerr wound up 19-under par, 12 shots in front of runner-up Song-Hee Kim. Kerr's victory is added to her win in the 2007 U.S. Women's Open for her second major championship. With her win Sunday, Kerr is expected to jump from No. 5 to No. 1 in the Rolex World Rankings, becoming the first female American to hold the top spot.
