9A: NFL News & Notes; Melo Saga Continues; MLB Playoff Picture

NFL NEWS AND NOTES:

Michael Vick will have an MRI on the rib injury he suffered Sunday against the Redskins, while Redskins RB Clinton Portis suffered a groin injury against the Eagles and his status is uncertain for Sunday's game vs Green Bay. Plus, the Raiders Darren McFadden left yesterday's game vs the Texans with a right hamstring injury.

ANTHONY SAGA CONTINUES:

The Carmelo Anthony saga continues. Despite numerous reports of on again off again trades involving the Nuggets star, Melo remains non-committal about all of it. He told reporters how important winning was to marketability. When asked why then he would consider the 12 win Nets, Melo replied, "I never said I want to play for the Nets." MLB PLAYOFFS:

The Giants win the NL West and will open the postseason Thursday against the Braves. San Francisco beat Atlanta in 5 games in the 2002 NLDS, the only previous playoff series between the teams. In the other NLDS series, the Phillies, looking to advance to the World Series for a third straight season, take on the Reds. Looking at the ALDS matchups: The Rays are hosting the Rangers and the Yankees will visit the Twins. Game 1 of both series will be Wednesday. Texas seeking its first-ever playoff series win. The Yankees have had little trouble with the Twins in the postseason, beating Minnesota in the ALDS in 2003, 2004 AND 2009.
