Dorin Dickerson #19, Kevin Bentley #57, DeMeco Ryans #59 and Matt Schaub #8 of the Houston Texans
Ryans was carted off the field just before halftime against the Chiefs. Ryans jumped and fell to the turf on a touchdown by the Chiefs. He remained on the turf for a few minutes while trainers attended to him before being helped to the cart. Ryans, a second-round pick in 2006, has had more than 110 tackles in each of his first four NFL seasons.
He was fired Sunday, one day after the Golden Gophers lost to Purdue to fall to 1-6 in his fourth season on the sideline. Brewster went 15-30 at Minnesota, including 6-21 in the Big Ten, and the Gophers' 28-17 loss to the Boilermakers on Saturday was their sixth straight defeat. Athletic director Joel Maturi said he's had several conversations with university President Robert Bruininks in the last few weeks about the coach and both agreed on the move. Offensive coordinator Jeff Horton will serve as interim head coach the remainder of the season. Brewster will receive a $600,000 buyout. One important sidebar...Tony Dungy has told Minnesota that he's not interested in returning to the sidelines to coach his alma mater. Sorry Gopher fans, he would have been money in Minneapolis.
Martinez was pulled in the second half against Texas for ineffectiveness, but coach Bo Pellini and offensive coordinator Shawn Watson said they still have confidence in the redshirt freshman. Nebraska lost to Texas 20-13.
