WHAT HAPPENED IN VEGAS
Was a bit sloppy. Boise State came in outscoring its opponents 170-28 in the first quarter this season. Yet somehow, they found themselves down 3-0 entering the second quarter last night against Utah. Then Doug Martin broke off an 84-yard touchdown, and the Broncos never looked back. And after missing a couple of field goals last month at Nevada (which meant Boise likely missed a berth in the Rose Bowl), kicker Kyle Brotzman was, of course, back in Nevada and made two of them. The first one (see: second quarter) made him the all-time leading scorer for kickers in FBS history. The second one (see: fourth quarter) pushed the final score to 26-3 and ensured the 17-point favorites covered nicely. Like children, nestled, all snug in their beds. Meanwhile, Utah had their nation's-best bowl game winning streak snapped at nine.
