ESPN.com Seahawks reporter Terry Blount reported Saturday that Harvin, the subject of much speculation about a possible return from hip surgery, would not be available against the Rams on Monday night.
Harvin began his three-week window for his return this week by getting back to practice. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has made it clear he wants to get Harvin's conditioning back and have him at full speed before unleashing him on opponents.
The Rams have only dealt with Harvin once in his career, a 2009 game in which he had four catches for 66 yards and a 27-yard kickoff return. Seattle made the bold move to trade for and sign Harvin to a lucrative contract in the offseason.
Adding Harvin to a team that came within a whisker of an appearance in the NFC Championship game a year ago was to be the final big move to put the Seahawks over the top but it remains to be seen whether he'll be healthy enough to do that this year. The Rams and Seahawks are scheduled to meet again in the season's final week in Seattle. Barring another injury, the Rams will get their first look at Seattle with Harvin then.
After losing quarterback Sam Bradford for the year because of a torn ACL in his left knee, the Rams will take any good news they can get. Harvin sitting out this week certainly qualifies.
