Power Rankings: No. 27 St. Louis Rams

A weekly examination of the Rams' ESPN.com Power Ranking:

Preseason: 15 | Last week: 19 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002

After enjoying their biggest surge up the rankings last week when they leaped from No. 25 to 19, the Rams took an even bigger spill this week following their 30-15 loss to Carolina. That defeat in a winnable game alone would have been enough to bump the Rams down the list a little bit, but probably not the eight spots that have them now at 27. No, that is almost certainly a direct result of the way the team is trending as a whole after the loss of quarterback Sam Bradford for the season due to a torn ACL in his left knee.

The six-member voting panel was nearly unanimous in its placement of the Rams, with four members putting the Rams at 26 and two at 25.

The Rams probably aren't in danger of falling too much further anytime soon with struggling teams like Jacksonville, Minnesota, Tampa Bay and the New York Giants sitting beneath them. However, unless the defense takes a major step up, Kellen Clemens proves he can produce as a starter or some combination therein, the team could find itself sitting right in this range for the foreseeable future.
