Kind of a slow day. Had to dig deep to find candidates.
The Stanford defense: All of them -- including defensive coordinator Derek Mason – for holding Oregon to 14 points in a 17-14 overtime win. Oregon -- to 14 freaking points! And they did it on the road. Even more impressive.
Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford: The stats weren’t mind-blowing. But he was efficient, he kept plays alive with his feet, he tossed a touchdown and ran for another. Oh yeah, and he won his first career road start at Autzen. Did we mention the defense held the Ducks to 14 points?
Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA: Running back Johnathan Franklin could certainly get the nod here, but Hundley’s composure was phenomenal. He was 22-of-30 for 234 yards and accounted for three touchdowns -- one in the air and two on the ground.
Ka'Deem Carey, RB, Arizona: Only 200+ this week. Still good enough for a helmet sticker -- especially on the road against one of the better rush defenses in the conference. Carey had 204 yards and a score on 26 carries in the 34-24 win over the Utes.
Taylor Kelly, QB, ASU: He was deadly-efficient, completing 20 of 23 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns. After starting the game 2-of-5, Kelly completed a school record 18-straight passes for 236 yards and the four scores. More importantly, the 46-7 win over Washington State gets the Sun Devils bowl eligible.
