Last 8 PGA TOUR Starts by Round
Woods is now a staggering 23-under in the first two rounds of his last eight PGA TOUR starts. He is 10-over in rounds three and four.
His round included eight birdies, the most he has made in a PGA TOUR round this season (his career best is 10) and it included a stretch of six straight birdies on holes 18-5 (he started his round on the back nine).
His longest career streak of par breakers (eagles or birdies) is seven, which he did at the 2005 Masters (won in a playoff).
This is the 12th time in Woods career he opened a PGA TOUR event with a score of 64 or better. Seven of the previous 11 times he did it, he went on to win the event. His last such win came in the 2009 AT&T National.
Tiger Woods Birdie Putts
By Distance Friday
The last time a player held at least a share of the 18-hole lead and won this tournament was in 2009, when Steve Stricker accomplished the feat.
The Deutsche Bank has been kind to Woods over the years. This is the eighth time he has played the event, and in the previous seven, he has won once (2006), was a runner-up once and finished in the top 10 four times. Including his round today, Tiger is a combined 86-under par in this tournament.
