Behind the box scores: Wednesday's games

A scan of the college basketball box scores each night guarantees all kinds of statistical oddities and standout performances. Here are some we found from Wednesday:

UAB 47, SMU 28

SMU shot 8-for-46 (17.4 percent) in scoring just 28 points in the loss. That’s the lowest field-goal percentage by a team this season, and only two teams have scored fewer points in a game (Arkansas State on Nov. 22 and Towson on Jan. 4 each scored 27). Last season, SMU shot 72.3 percent in a game against Lamar, the highest field-goal percentage by any team in 2010-11.

Drake 62, Bradley 55

Bradley missed all 20 of its 3-point attempts in the loss, the second most 3-point attempts without a make by a team this season. South Alabama missed all 24 3-point attempts in a loss to Florida State on Nov. 20.

Oakland 76, Southern Utah 68 (OT)

Four of Oakland’s starters did not make a field goal, the first time this season a team has done that. Drew Valentine played the full 45 minutes without a field goal, the most minutes by any player without a basket in a game this season. The one starter who did make a field goal, Reggie Hamilton, also made all 13 of his free-throw attempts. It’s the third time Hamilton has gone at least 12-for-12 from the line; no other player has done it more than once.

Air Force 58, Wyoming 53

Air Force became the second team this season to win a game despite not recording an offensive rebound (Norfolk State on Nov. 27 against Eastern Kentucky). No team last season failed to record an offensive rebound in a game.

Marist 72, Loyola (MD) 54

Marist’s Adam Kemp had 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks in the Red Foxes’ win. Kemp is the fourth player this year with at least 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks in a game, joining Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, Auburn’s Kenny Gabriel and Kansas’ Jeff Withey.
