Lowell out, Bailey (and Kotsay) in

Amalie Benjamin has tonight's Red Sox lineup, and there's a (sort of) new name in there:

The Red Sox today placed Mike Lowell on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain (retroactive to June 28), recalling Jeff Bailey from Triple-A Pawtucket and inserting him into tonight's lineup:

1. Julio Lugo, SS
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
4. Jason Bay, LF
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Jason Varitek, C
7. Rocco Baldelli, RF
8. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
9. Jeff Bailey, 1B
SP. John Smoltz, RHP

Obviously, Bailey's not good ... but he's probably good enough. Bailey hasn't played much in the majors, but in the minors he's got a .297/.397/.567 line against left-handed pitchers (lefty Rich Hill is going against the Red Sox tonight). Meanwhile, Mark Kotsay's got lots of time in the majors ... and a .283/.340/.418 line against the right-handers. Not good, exactly. But a Kotsay/Bailey platoon should be passable until Lowell comes back or the Red Sox swing a trade for a real first (or third) baseman.
