TAMPA, Fla. -- It still is being determined if Tampa Bay guard Carl Nicks, who had a recurrence of a MRSA infection, will need surgery.
“He’s getting further evaluation as we speak,’’ coach Greg Schiano said Monday afternoon. “We’re going to use every resource available to do what’s ultimately best for Carl and try to get this thing licked.’’
Nicks is one of three Tampa Bay players to come down with MRSA since the preseason. Kicker Lawrence Tynes is out for the season. Rookie cornerback Johnthan Banks, who was diagnosed last week, was able to play in Sunday’s loss to Philadelphia.
In other injury news, Schiano said running back Jeff Demps suffered a groin injury Sunday and his condition still is being evaluated. Schiano said he expects wide receiver Mike Williams, who missed Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury, to be back this week. Center Jeremy Zuttah appeared to suffer an injury near the end of Sunday’s game, but Schiano said the injury was not serious.
